Why Diversity is Important in Today’s Society
Demographic composition of the society in the United States has changed significantly in the last two decades and it is bound to change even more in the coming years (Cole & Salimath, 2013). It is important that people gain awareness of the prevailing cultural change as they live and work in a diverse society. It is increasingly necessary for state departments, corporations and the non-governmental organizations around the world to recognize that diversity plays a significant role in the society today. Diversity is important for to participate in the market aspect of the international market, it gives rise to innovative ideas and offers people the chance to learn and appreciate different ways of life.
Diversity is important because it allows economic growth as people from different parts of the world interact in today’s society. Foreign trade contributes a large percentage of employment opportunities in the global market. The emergence of the global market requires different countries to appreciate diversity to ensure economic growth. Countries participate in international trade and businesses that understand and appreciate diversity in other parts of the world. This allows businesses to customize their services and goods to elements of their culture such as language and customary needs. For instance, when Nova made decisions to penetrate the Spanish market, its vehicle failed to sell because the word Nova translated in Spanish meant that the vehicle does not move (Cole & Salimath, 2013).
It is important to for people with diverse backgrounds to interact because it provides a rich aura that is characterized by innovation. Diversity brings people with unique experiences and capabilities together and their different ways of thinking leads to the amalgamation of innovative solutions in their spheres of influence. This is particularly useful in the contemporary environment of fierce competition in the global market.
