Division in Christianity
Christianity resonates with monotheistic system that defines practices and beliefs, emphasizing on the role of Jesus Christ as the savior. Christianity follows the teachings of Jesus Christ in the New Testament and Old Testament. It entails the collective aspect of all the Christians throughout the world (Rhodes, 2005). This has been useful considering the origin of Christianity is in America, Europe and Australia. There have been divisions of the Christianity in the world. The common beliefs comprise of the Catholic, Baptist, Methodist/Wesleyan, Reformed Presbyterian, Orthodox, Lutheran and Anglican/Episcopalian (Rhodes, 2005). Christian’s beliefs in God and Jesus Christ but have differences in their processes. It has been noted that the differences in the beliefs of the divisions of Christianity entails religious authority, God and Spirits, sins and salvations and body and soul.
The differences in Christianity considering religious and authority entails creeds and confessions, sacred text, inspiration and inerrancy of the bible and doctrine sources. Considering creeds and confessions; Catholics beliefs focus on Nicene Creed and Apostles’ Creed. Orthodox belief in the Nicene Creed in expressing authoritative nature, this is essential in Orthodox considered to constitute the fundamental belief. Lutheran considers the Apostles ’ Creed, Augsburg confession, Althanasian Creed, Nicene Creed and the formula of Concord. Reformed Presbyterian considers Westminster confession, Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed. Anglican considers Apostles’ Creed as the symbol represents baptism. Nicene Creed is considered to symbolize the Christian faith statement. Methodists believe in Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed. Baptists do not belief with statements and Creeds posing that the prepared creeds influences the ability to interpret the gospel appropriately. Baptist beliefs reflect on the guidance of the Holy Spirit (Bowman & Fuller, 2003).
Sacred text is critical in analyzing the divisions in Christianity. Catholic beliefs resonate with the Holy Bible and the Apocrypha. Orthodox beliefs are identified with Holy Bible and the Apocrypha. Lutheran beliefs identifies with the Holy bible only. They believe that Apocrypha is only useful in enhancing individual faith. Reformed Presbyterian beliefs are identified with the Holy Bible only. Anglicans beliefs resonate with the Holy Bible only. Apocrypha assists in the Bible interpretation therefore used as an edification and tradition piece of work. Methodist beliefs indicates acknowledgement of the Holy Bible only and Baptist’s belief resonates with Holy bible only.
