The first model is what most would call as fast and frugal decision-making. What differentiates this kind of model is that the individual voter is assumed to act and choose solely on the basis of "limited information." Compared to the other models, this one neither differentiates based on a predetermined party affiliation acquired through birth or upbringing nor through a determination of "value-maximizing decisions." Instead, a voter is deemed to have very limited information on the matter, and that collecting and analyzing all the pieces of information has a 'high cost' that dissuades the voter from gathering more information about each and every candidate. Nonetheless, the voter's choice is still heavily influenced by a particular set of issues that he cares about, such as gun regulations and freedom of speech, to illustrate some. Therefore, since the voter does not have enough time and resources to create a rational decision, his choice of candidate is influenced mainly by his 'left-right ideology' (based on the specific issues he cares about), which influences his party choice.
The second model is what we can call "Early socialization and cognitive consistency." In this model, the voter is assumed to have an innate or inherent 'party disposition' that he was able to acquire from his parents. Accordingly, this party disposition colors or influences his own decisions regarding socio-political and economic matters such as "performance evaluations" and his views on each candidate's "personal characteristics and issue stands." In other words, what differentiates this model from the other two is that party affiliation is considered as having a significant effect on the ideology of the voter, thereby affecting his vote or party choice.
The third model is what most would call a rational choice model or theory. As compared to the other models, this one may either be constrained or unconstrained depending on the capacity and the availability of data for each voter. Compared to other models, it is assumed that the voter makes the most rational choice by evaluating the available information and ultimately chooses that would give him the most benefit.
