It is possible to study terrorism empirically or practically. This is because reliable data and sources on the field of terrorism, even though, it is mostly theoretical, it contains facts that can be used to understand terrorism trends (Lum, Kennedy & Sherley, 2006). For example, there is empirical research on the incidents of terrorism that happen per year in a given country or nation. This data can be used to explain incidents of terrorism and how they are likely to occur. Other factors such as personality profiles of terrorists, motivational factors of terrorism, and what drives terrorists have empirical research to prove these facts. This data is available and can be used when studying terrorism and it drivers (LaFree & Ackerman, 2009).
Further, it is possible to study terrorism empirically because demographic data is undisputable. This means that research is available to show where and who are the most perpetrators of terrorism.
