Cultural anthropology, which is also referred to as social-cultural anthropology and social anthropology is study of historically and contemporary recent human cultures and societies. The main focus of study in this field is culture (the beliefs and customs of some human group). Another area of main interest in this field is understanding the consequences and causes of social-cultural change in the process of globalization. The aim of this paper is to analyze the concept of cultural anthropology and share my thoughts on the concepts of globalization and change.
Understanding culture is vital when trying to understand what is happening in the world today, in addition to effecting positive changes and solving problems. Culture is the way people in a community adapt to their surroundings and give meaning to life. Anthropologists believe that change is among the most basic attributes in all cultures. They also found that the merging of cultures, technology, environmental/legal policies, economic systems, military prowess and healthcare of various ethnicities brings about the concept of globalization. In this context, we can conclude that globalization can never be effective without the aspect of migration. Migration is not a new phenomenon in the world; however, modern technology has reduced the cost and increased the speed of travelling today.
Through migration and globalization, various good and bad things emerge. Among the good things is cultural blending since various things like healthcares have been improved through globalization. Additionally, most developing countries have advanced since their economies have improved from money sent by their citizens living and working in wealthy countries. However, globalization also has several disadvantages such as exhausting natural resources like forests.
