Different works of literature can be compared using their similarities and differences including those relating to the themes that are discussed in them. The ‘’Frankenstein’’ and ‘’The Yellow Wallpaper’’ are one of the works of literature that can be compared. ‘’The Yellow Paper’’ is about a book that was written by a narrator who revealed the sufferings that she experienced in her marriage during the time when men still dominated the society. On the other hand, ‘’Frankenstein’’ is about a scientific experiment that went wrong when Victor tried to make life out of a lifeless object. The creature that was made after the experiment was ugly and did not love its looks that made it revenge against its makers. Therefore, the work will focus on a comparison of the two literature works including their similarities and differences.
The first difference between the two literatures is seen in the general lessons that are learned from them. ‘’Frankenstein’’ teaches people that we should not continue with the act of destroying nature which is different from ‘’The Yellow Paper’’ that enlighten us about the sufferings that women faced in their marriages during the time. Victor wondered how life came about and tried to make a living being by assembling various parts of dead people in an experiment to put life out of the pieces. However, the experiment went wrong as the creature that was made became very ugly and did not love its looks which made it plan for revenge against its creators. Specifically, Victor described the monster as being ‘’ugly and wretched’’ to reveal the bad looks of the creature. Hence, we should not destroy nature because the repercussions may be more severe than we expected. Contrarily, ‘’The Yellow Paper’’ supports the idea of women activists who fought for the achievement of gender equality. The story revealed by the narrator is painful as she describes how she was mistreated by her husband John and his brother who was her physician because of the illness she was experiencing. The physician proposed that the woman be kept in an isolated room to reduce the level of stress she was experiencing despite knowing that that was not the best solution but he continued with it to impress his brother. Moreover, the woman did not experience the joy that mothers do after giving birth as her child was left under the care of a baby sitter. The narrator described that ‘’I cried while breastfeeding my baby’’ to prove that she never enjoyed the motherhood. Hence, the main lessons behind the two literature works are completely different.
Also, there is a variation of the type of literature over which the two works are based on and the nature of the society during the time that they were done. ‘’Frankenstein’’ is based on science which is a new technology that is being tested by the story while the ‘’The Yellow Paper’’ marked the time when women started engaging in litera...
