Terrorism and State Failure
According to Howard, there is a relationship that exists between the failed states and terrorism. In the first case, Howard appears to disagree with the use of the term ‘failed states’ to refer to other countries. He views the use of the term ‘failed states’ to be more political. It is based primarily on the perceptions of the Western nations on various issues such as security and their interests in that country CITATION Tif10 \l 1033 (Tiffiany, 2010). It is good to note that it is not all the failed states that promote terrorism in the various countries. Different countries are trying as much as they can to do away with the terrorist activities in their countries CITATION Tif10 \l 1033 (Tiffiany, 2010). Terrorism activities were also observed to be lowering the level of the economic development of a given country.
The article identifies that in most of the failed states the government spent a lot of money in fighting the terrorism activities at the expense of national development projects. As such the governments later failed since they were not able to meet the needs of their people. One of the countries that are associated with failure as a result of terrorism is Somalia. Part of Somalia is inhabited by the Islamic Militant group that is known as Al-Shabaab. The group controls most of the parts of the country and as such the African Union Army stepped in to help the country by sending soldiers to do away with the terrorists in the country.
The other problem that is associated with the failed states is the violation of the human rights of the citizens in the country CITATION Bri14 \l 1033 (Bridget, 2014).
