The Role of Allies as Change Agents
An ally plays a significant role as a change agent. The efforts and commitment of allies can help bring equality and empowerment to the oppressed. Additionally, allies can assist in reducing or eliminating the violence that the dominant groups subject their targets (Rothenberg, 2013). For instance, the whites can deter fellow whites from oppressing black people. Also, an ally serves as a role model to others, particularly the young individuals. A person can fight racism or sexism if they have an example of the same. For instance, men can help teach other men the importance of respecting and protecting women (Drury & Kaiser, 2014).
