Russet closely examines the idea that democracies do not fight against each other. He finds this as an abnormal conclusion when he compares it to the counterexamples like the Spanish-American war and the Boer War. In addition, there are alternative explanations as far as democratic peace is concerned. There is also the observation that democracy is the international institutions’ product or ordinary geographical distance. There is an argument that peace is the outcome of shared institutions and norms which constrain a lot the capacity of a single democracy to fight another. Additionally, democratic peace can be prevented by various new democracies mushrooming after the Cold War. Here, democracy is encoded to intolerant ethnicity and nationalism. The author tries to summarize works on democratic peace. He explains the theoretical arguments and empirical roots of democracy (Russett, 1995).
On the other hand, there is n attempt to know if democratic peace moved to Ancient Greece. The author finds little support and then concludes that peace requires both the ordinary democracy institutions and the other democracies’ perspective of the nature of the regime. With inadequate mutual recognition of the institutions of democracy and norms, democracy may be unable to avoid conflicts. Afterwards, there is the application of democratic peace towards the period of the Second World War. Hence, there is the conclusion that that joint democracy enhances development of peace. Lastly, the issues of non-industrial societies arise. Although it is hard to achieve a serious relationship, there is the conclusion that joint participatory societies and participation contribute a lot towards conflict reduction.
