Social Responsibility
Social responsibility is the practice of individuals or organizations to carry out activities that benefit the society besides the stakeholders. These social activities aim at striking a balance between the economical environment of an organization and the welfare of the people in the region operation. Business activities are carried out to yield profits using resources in a given area and in most cases give little attention to people’s welfare (Roa, 2007). This scenario has raised criticisms and debate in the recent past forcing organizational managers to find ways of sharing achievements with the society. Social responsibility is an ethical issue practiced through sponsorships of education or sports; employment of local people; provision of social amenities such as clean water and medical services; and environment conservation among others. Social responsibility facilitates good relations with the public and would help in handling issues in an organization. This paper will discuss how ethical principles can be used to address organizational issues with regard to the film “Entrepreneurial spirit: Austin black.”
In the film, Austin was young community leader in their city who sold property (LMIC, 2013). He developed entrepreneurial mind since childhood when his mother took him out to social events and places. He spent most time exploring the city and its heritage. The city had wonderful building that inspired him by imagining how he could contribute towards future achievements. The structures lied there but thinking about the goals of its architects to make it wonderful place to live would inspire the people. He saw the potential that the city would grow. The adventures made him view the city as the place to live and helping the people visualize this would encourage them build it. He believed in doing activities that benefited people rather than making money only. The entrepreneurs would meet and discuss activities beneficial to people which would in turn develop the businesses and the city even over the hard times experienced.
The issues presented in the film were of importance since they addressed the development of the city and the welfare of the people. This would emanate with understanding that the people owned it and would take responsibility to make it better. The entrepreneurs’ ways of doing business to create money would be transformed to take consideration of the people conditions (LMIC, 2013). Development of one another would in turn lead to growth of the entire city. It would also be solution to the hardships that were experienced.
