The Way we Live
Culture is an integral part that affects the way humans live and interact in a society. One author that has been able to demonstrate the way we live is Macionis (2011). According to the author, family is one of the elements that affect human’s lifestyles. This owes to the reality that almost every aspect of our lifestyles is founded on families (relationships, responsibilities, and character). Another element that affects the way we live is the friends and the expectations from our society. This paper analyzes the way culture influences individuals, groups, and societies.
According to Macionis (2011, p.54) family affects our lifestyles owing to the fact that it influences the way children are raised. The author also asserts that funerals are inseparable from culture because it is encountered in the entire globe. Another element that affects the way we live is the society around us. Consider the example of the Amish people; their culture influences their style of dressing, their level of technology (they do not use telephones), education, their main source of food, and their mode of transportation (The Way We Live: Episode 3). For instance, the Amish society uses horses instead of cars as their main mode of transport.

It is notable that the Amish are a group of hardworking and religious people who value close family ties and humility (Weyer, et al., 2003). Therefore, one can conclude that culture influences our lives, the groups we associate with and the wider society. In fact, Oyserman and Spike (2010, p. 311) argue that culture matters to the extent that people from different societies are likely to have distinct practices. However, despite the global differences in culture, societies have similarities on matters pertaining to families and remorse (in funerals) (Macionis, 2011, p.54).
