Introduction
The event took place in the seventeenth century during the time of colonialists where the English colonialist wanted to concur Virginia and take charge of it while Indians were occupying it at that time. Behn wrote the book for people who wanted to know more about Nathaniel Bacon’s Rebellion and how it influenced the community of Virginia in general. In her book, Behn used different tones depending on the occasion that occurred. For example, a joyful mood is used when the soldiers were celebrating their victory over the Indians, sad when Bacon and the Indian princess kicked the bucket, optimistic when Baron was leading the troop to the battle.
Historical Context
The writer goes ahead and borrowed some actions; for example, the fate of Baron comes from a well-known story of Cassius who died on the hands of his freedman Dandarus after being defeated. More so, Bacon alluded to Hannibal’s fate hence showing how Mrs Behn took the idea of hero’s suicide from it. Widow Ranter describes how the colonists Nathaniel Bacon and a volunteer force of Indian fighters managed to concur Sir Berkeley's government for several months. Behn also explains about a young widow Ranter who wore men’s clothes and fights in battles (Wittman, 2019). She goes ahead to explain more concerning Bacon’s rebellion and its effect on the community as well as the colonialist who invaded Virginia. She describes it in a play review; hence, the source is secondary. Behn explains about the English colony invading the Indian in the seventeenth century and tried to colonize them of which they were successful after some battle which resulted in killings of some great leaders. Bacon, General of English Virginia, led the rebel and emerged winner during the fight with the Indian tribes. But the supreme council, whom the colony governed was treated him as a rebel and a traitor and refused to commission his actions against the Indians due to their jealousy, stupid and selfish ways.
The work ends with victory for most characters with the exceptions of Bacon to take poison and kill himself. Sermenia who was accidentally wounded by Bacon in one the attacks as she was escaping the Indian King Cavarnio, who was slain in a pitched battle which was being led by Bacon. This book conveys information regarding race, gen...
