Social Stratification
This is the concept of classifying individuals into groups based on their shared socio-economic conditions, or a relational set of inequalities with economic, social, political as well as ideological dimensions. In modern countries in the West, social stratification has been broadly organized into three main groups, mainly, upper, middle and lower groups. As if not enough, the three major groups have been subdivided further into smaller classes. In other terms, social stratification pertains majorly to material wealth, which distinguishes status classes, based on variables like prestige, honor as well as religious affiliations(Richard, 2006). As an effect, Sport, events and tourism are areas of cultural consumption that, at first thought, evoke positivity, fantasy and fun. However, they also all reflect the politics and problems associated with the social stratification of modern society. As a result, this easy critically analyses social stratification concept, and how it affects events.
The culture of different communities has revealed the, people are supposed to learn keenly looking or attending events. People in traditional communities especially with roots in indigenous North America in most cases participate in productive and social events for their own families as well as their communalities at large to learn about what to do by observing on going events, or learning from what the speakers will say. Learning through keen observation and listening on the other hand seem to be down graded by middle class individuals in different communities. This is based on the fact that, less emphasize has been taken by such individuals. This is because; such people have littlie time to participate in such activities. On that note, their children have little time to participate in a range of events participated by their parents.
The social stratification concept has been interpreted differently by different theoretical perspectives in sociological field. The proponents of action theory have said that, “Since social stratification is commonly found in developed societies, hierarchy may be necessary in order to stabilize social structure” (Stark, 2007. It has been stated that, for stability and social order are partly regulated by the so called universal value, however, universal values were not in agreement with the majority.
