Wal-mart stores Inc is one of the American public multi-national corporation that runs chains of large discounted warehouses and stores. In 2010, the company was at the top of public corporations in terms of revenues. Being a major company, the company the organizations growth is affected by work motivation, leadership and culture & climate.
Work Motivation
Due to the fact that Wal-mart is a multi-national corporation, it employs people from different cultures. As an effect, every employee has different motivations for working, and there is no way such motivations can be far much different from one another. for instance, though the reason for working are unique for every individual, but employees work because everybody obtain something that he or she wants from work, wont you? As a result, things that individuals obtain from their work, ends up impacting his or her morale, motivation as well as quality of live lived by the individual. As a result, Wal-mart managers in most cases thinks about motivating there employees. In doing so, it has turned to be a common assumption that, Wal-mart has higher chances of employing individuals whose values, integrity and needs ought to be consistent with the organization. as a result, leaders are charged with the responsibility of promoting general social welfare, along with the protection of the society, and every individual in it. Wal-mart’s mission has a broader scope along with impacts that are profound.
In fulfilling such missions and organization objectives, the responsibility of the manager in the workplace is to ensure things are done through employees. In doing so, it is the duty of the leaders to come up with a system that motivates the organization workers. However, atpart from Wal-mart, this issue this in most organizations has been easier said than implemented. Consider what is happening at your work place? Is it not the same story? This proves the fact that, motivation practices and theories are much difficult matters to implement, as it will entail touching other disciplines, like leadership and company cultures.
The composition of workforce in an organization, matters a lot for employees motivation. It has been shown that, “the composition of the workforce is expected to depict the nature of the work in the organization by attracting employees who desire greater opportunities to fulfill higher-order needs and altruistic motives by performing organizational service. It is these personal traits that are often touted as the main element of motivating behavior. This has been based on the fact that, the process of understanding values as well as reward preferences of different organizational workers is very important in the process of structuring company’s environments, and incentive systems, with the aim of satisfying such like preferences” (Herzberg, 1968).
