Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
WBS is a ‘deliverable-oriented hierarchical decomposition of the work to be executed by the project team to accomplish the project objectives and create the required deliverables. It organizes defines the total scope of the project. Each descending level represents an increasingly detailed definition of the project work’ (Brotherton, Fried, & Norman, 2008). The WBS is used to is used to plan, execute, monitor and control the processes, activities and determine the completed activities, ongoing activities and what is yet to be done. It provides the blueprint to takes large complex projects and break them into smaller, more manageable tasks that can be assigned to specific people or teams to deliver (Mong, 2020). The WBS is used as a starting point for scope management and is integral to other project management processes (Brotherton, Fried, & Norman, 2008). Scope of WBS The scope of the project is the work performed to deliver a product, service, or result with the specified features and functions (Athayde, Elswick, & Lombard, 2013). The WBS for this project does not include the duration for each event or the day to day operations of the project. It solely focuses on the main activities and their sub-activities necessary for the completion of the project. The scope also does not include the resources and or budget needed for the project. That is covered in the resource breakdown structure. The summary of the things covered by the WBS include: Planning – In this phase, the focus will be on coming up with architectural renderings of the whole usable space in the house. Designs will be evaluated and revised before final drawings and rendering is created. The final drawing will be submitted to authorities to obtain permits for construction. Renovation + Retrofitting - Most of the work will be done in this phase. The actual escape room construction (partitioning the space into rooms). The space does not have a bathroom hence it will be constructed in this stage. Faulty plumbing and drainage system will be repaired. Flooring, tiling and painting will all be done in this phase. Fittings and Finishing – The escape rooms are expected to be complete after this phase. There will be electrical wiring and installation of power outlet points. Lighting system installation in the hallways and escape rooms will also be done in this phase. The theme for the project is horror, so lighting will be done in line with the theme. Soundproofing will be done in each escape room. Cabinetry will also be installed in the reception and escape rooms as needed. Horror props and their mechanisms will be installed in this phase. Utilities – CCTV will be installed in the hallways and outside for security. Internet will be installed where necessary especially the reception area. Other systems to be installed in this phase are sound, HVAC, fire, and internet. Sound will be particularly important in the escape rooms for added effect. HVAC will be installed to ensure that there will be good circulation of air in the rooms and ambient temperatures for the games. Fir...
