Issues in Today’s Society
Many issues confront our contemporary society. Some of them are quite historical, while others are margining due to our highly dynamic and unpredictable. Discrimination and bias in terms of religion, race, group, community, place of origin and ethnicity, have been elusive issues of concern for a long time. Many minority groups more often feel discriminated against in also all spheres of life, including the criminal justice system, politics, and socio-economic systems. In many instances, the minority groups have been treated unfairly by the perceived dominant groups.
The unfair treatments of minority groups characterized by implicit and explicit bias or prejudice have led to the formation of organizational and movement, which are geared towards fighting against discrimination. Examples of such organizations or movements include Black Lives Matter Movement (BLM), National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), and Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), among others.
