What cultural differences exist between high school and university?
University is a higher learning institution that admits students after graduation from high school. There are various cultural differences between high school and university. Most importantly, the mode of studies in the university is apparently different from high school. The university students are treated as adults, and they are subjected to study on themselves without much supervision from the instructor. However, in campuses, the studies is more technical. University students are given assignment to conduct research and deliver reports within a short time. This makes university students more responsible contrary to a high school culture
The second critical cultural differences between university and high school learning is that the campus have intensive studies as opposed to high school. Precisely, high school learning focuses on elementary education to impart students with requisite knowledge for university education (DiMaggio pg. 189). Meanwhile, the university education is a practical learning program that exposes the student to practical issues in the real world. The campus students are equipped with more detailed information in their relevant field. The education is tailored towards a specific area of specialization.
Finally, high school learning is mainly theory-based mode of study. It is an introductory learning stage where the students are introduced to various disciplines. There is no specialization in high school. Contrary, the university learning is practical based.
