Aftermath of the Spanish American War
The secretary of state calls this a splendid little war, which they deemed as a great victory for the USA. The aftermath of the Spanish-American war is more devastating than the war itself. American war efforts has caused major shift of power in the globe. The results of the quarrelling countries reduced the Spanish Empire. American forces were successful in regaining Cuba, but not without much sacrifice. Cuba was a very important territory of the Spaniards, as it held a strategic location, and it has remained in their rule for a long time. However, there were only a few Spanish territories left including the Spanish ruled areas in West Africa, Guinea, Morocco, and Canary.
In the actual war, approximately 400 guys died from the actual fighting. Thousands of soldiers died from tropical diseases and shortage of food. Even if there was a victory in acquisition of territory, many lives were lost. The Philippines was a stage wherein the impact of the Spanish-American war was deeply felt.
