He was born on 22nd June 1898 in Germany and died on 25th September in 1970. Erich had a complicated life that included divorcing and remarrying his wife, changing his name and being branded as a traitor. However, the most known facts about Maria were his writings. Some of the literature works that Remarque did include, The Dream Room, Station at the Horizon, The Road Back, and Quiet on the Western Front. Nevertheless, Quiet on the Western Front took the centre stage among his writings and was even made into an Oscar-Winning film. This paper seeks to give a summary on the life and works of Erich Maria Remarque and incorporate some quotes from his famous book, Quiet on the Western Front. Early life and Military Erich Maria Remarque was born in the city of Osnabruck to a working class Roman Catholic family. His parents were Peter Franz Remark and Anna Maria. When he was 18 years old, Maria was conscripted into the German army that fought in World War 1. However, in 1917, he was send to the Western Front; a field Deport located at Hem-Lenglet. Nevertheless, due to the intensive military operations that occurred during World War 1, he was transferred from Hem-Lenglet to a Reserve Infantry Regime that was located between Houthulst and Torhout. On 31st July, Erich Maria Remarque was badly wounded in his neck, right arm, and left leg.
