The immigration of people from other countries into the United States led to an increase in foreign nationals into the country. One accelerating factor was the reduced costs of sail to steam power during that time. With more people merging to the same regions, the item of culture was a concern. Immigrants did not adapt to the American culture instantly, leading to the balkanization of the entire American population and its culture. Their involvement in the American populations led to the improved labor force in different sections of the country, thereby increasing the geographical movement within America. An example is the Age of Mass Immigration between 1870 to 1920, as illustrated by Abramitzky, and Leah (1311).
