Sexual Harassment
While in their workplace, all employees should be protected from exploitation, discrimination, and any form of harassment. It is the prerogative of the employer to establish policies to protect workers. The legislation should be in line with Title VII (Colella and King 82). The universal law directs that employers should not discriminate against workers based on race, sex, origin, religion, and color. Sexual harassment constitutes sex discrimination, and therefore contravenes Title VII (Colella and King 97). It is defined as unwanted sexual advances, suggestive physical or sexual conduct, and asking for sexual favors. Unfortunately, most people think that sexual harassment is physical. Besides, it can comprise derogatory remarks regarding one’s sex. In this essay, I use an example of a lady friend of mine who confided in me that her supervisor sexually harassed her at work. Her case not only highlights how employers take advantage of new female employees in the workplace, but also provides measures that the employee can take to prevent future sexual harassment.
Kate is my childhood friend. We grew up together in the neighborhood of Denver, Colorado. She had always been a jovial girl, one who would light up a gloomy day. Three years ago kate got her first job at a media company. She was naturally attractive, and her infectious smile could have melted even the coldest heart.
