Emily Dickson's poetry
Emily Dickinson is one of the greatest American poets of all time. She was born in the nineteenth century and she has written many poems including “I’m Nobody—Who are You?” where she reflecting his own feelings and beliefs. In several of her poems, Dickinson displayed her disrespect of publicity and she strongly believed that the thoughts of the mind should never be sold but instead, they ought to be kept or shared privately. These deep thoughts and ideas are also clear in this poem. Here, Dickinson discloses another side about herself. She appears longing for companionship and although she dislikes publicity, the fact that she is still human necessitates the need for friendship.
This poem effectively draws Dickinson’s feelings about meeting someone. She is overwhelmed since she believes that her companion is a “Nobody” just like her (Dickinson, p1). Ideally, this shows that Dickinson feels excited establishing a friendship with someone who they share the same values regarding privacy and who has also kept away from the public eye. The poem has effectively demonstrated how solitary and isolated Dickinson’s life was and has also displayed her inner desires for having relationships which could not compel her into the public eye.
