The films and the different readings have had an amazing impact on my understanding of the social, political, and economic aspects surrounding the contentious issues of immigration and racism. The directors of the films did an amazing job in unraveling the mysteries, controversies, and harrowing experiences that immigrants often undergo while seeking refuge in a foreign land. For those who manage to settle in the foreign land, they are often faced with the challenge of handling the contrasting cultures and fractured identities, and the impact is even more severe for the subsequent generations that have to blend in the contrasting cultures.
