With the revolution of computers, the internet, and information technology, computer entertainments emerged. In their article, Zamani, Chashmi, and Hedayati (2009) mention that teenagers are the most addicted to the games, due to their urge to rise the ranks and achieve more excitements. There are two versions of games; those installed on computers and those plaid online. Playing these games results in the separation of teenagers from the rest of the people and their environments, consequences that researchers say to have severe effects on their mental and physical wellbeing. One such game is Scrabble Word Finder, which I have plaid for a while. It requires you to play against a real opponent or a virtual opponent generated by the system. One has to gather as many points as they can, depending on the positions they place the letter on the game platform. This paper analyses the effects of computer games discusses Scrabble Word Finder and concludes by discussing the way forward for parents to apply in bringing to an end these effects.
Zamani, Chashmi, and Hedayati (2009) indicated that one of the profound effects of computer games is obesity. Their research identifies how teenagers stay in their sitting position for a whole day, weeks, and months. This ends in little physical activity, no calories burnt, and all the sucrose is converted into fats. The persistence of this leads to extreme weight gain and obesity. From medical research, obesity is a risk factor to diabetes and even heart diseases. When the body has more than enough fats, it can easily be converted to sugars, to levels that will exceed the capabilities of the insulin produced. To prevent this, it would be proper that computer and online games be reduced. Concerning heart diseases, the major problem originates from the blockage of arteries and veins by the excess facts stored in the body. The fats occupy more space in the blood vessels and reduce their diameters. This leads to less blood circulation at any given time, while the demand for oxygen and energy remains constant. The result is an additional pressure to supply more blood to different organs of the body. This excess pumping leads to pressure and heart complications.
From their research, Zamani, Chashmi, and Hedayati (2009) identified isolation and loneliness as the other effect of playing computer and online games. Staying alone for long deprives teenagers of their social existence and development together with the rest. Unlike the past, when they played together, engaged a lot, today's teenagers do not have time for each other. Their time is wasted on playing online and computer games. In the end, interpersonal development is deterred. As they grow, they are always deprived of this, leading to problems with social development of the teenagers. Sometimes, even the management of families and social relations fail due to the deprived know-how and maturity desired to handle this.
