Finger Food by Nina Shengold
In the play "Finger Food" by Nina Shengold, the theme of love is evidently expressed and well-illustrated. The author has used two characters; Denny and Mona to develop the theme of love in a fast paced and funny way. At the beginning of the play, Denny has come to shoot a finger food advertisement using Carla as the model. When he sees a model coming in through the door, he thinks that it is Carla and he moves to the door and kiss her cheek only to realize it is Mona. The warm reception Denny prepares for Carla if at all she was to come portrays an element of love to her, something that is contrary to Mona who instead comes. In fact, Denny cools down when he realizes that it was not Carla. Moreover, when Mona breaks the news that Carla has had a terrible accident, Denny refuses to believe instead he expresses disbelieve.
Moreover, it is evident from the play that Mona gets hurted by the close attaching bond that she realizes exist between Denny and Carla. Mona Feels hurt, looks at him poutingly and says "well, I’m her understudy". The author further develops the theme of love through the way it becomes hard for Denny to believe that Mona can as well deliver as Carla would do. It is a clear gesture that Denny loved Carla especially the way she would serve as a model something he is not sure whether Mona would deliver...
