Introduction
Today, differentiating between an officer’s actions as to whether it’s abusive and violent or courageous and honorable is something that boggles the mind of most people. Perhaps, this is due to the fact that videos, images, and other media have just recently gone viral while depicting police officers abusing the very citizens that they swore to protect. Nonetheless, what made this an even bigger issue is the fact that most people have seen a trend where these police officers have instigated these acts towards the minority, such as Latinos and the Blacks in the US, an act usually called as “racial profiling”. This then paved way for many people correlating these acts of violence into the issues of racism. However, thanks to the continuing population of people who consumes social media and takes videos of almost every single thing that they do, that these acts become documented, serving as witnesses of what really happened. In cases like these, where videos are present, I believe that what differentiates an officer simply doing his job as compared to one being abusive is if the police officer only exerts the “enough amount of force” in relation to the actual and potential risks instigated by the perpetrator, “regardless of who he/she is”.
