Introduction
Art is Political
Society is tied together by the basic perceptions that are held on for generations. Sometimes these perceptions will change and with them the basic ability of the people to express themselves. This is a crucial element that connects society and art. To better understand to the relationship, it is important that art is expressive at the individual level before it even gets to the society level. Ideally, everyone has perception that they develop once they interact with the art. What one person understands about a piece of art may be different from what there of the people will interpreter (Lethem, Jonathan). At the same time, the message that the artiste wants to pass across may be quite different from what viewers see, understand and feel. It is important to note that a piece of art may be used to mean a single thing to the rest of the society, which means that meaning goes starts at the individual level but is reflected in the rest of the community. This is the true nature of art it a strong political tool, as it can be used to develop perceptions and shape interpretations (Nelson, Maggie). This is a crucial part of the expressive nature of art and how it affects society. Art is political in its very nature.it is the ability to express and even drive certain agendas in the society using a powerful tool that requires the viewers to interpret. Art in its most intrinsic nature is political and is a reflection of the society at the basic unit of a single individual.

An image never loses its message regardless of where it is posted or its age. There are quite a number of platforms to use these days to convey a message and shape the perceptions of the viewers. “But after nearly 200 years of photography, it may be that we are closer than ever to understanding that an image be it circulated in a newspaper, on YouTube, or in an art gallery is an exceptionally poor platform on which to place the unending arduous, multifaceted and circuitous process of, changing the world,” (Nelson 304). As indicated in the quote above, art can be used in changing the world. Using a simple image placed on either of the platforms is an easy way of starting a political movement of change. It only takes the creative minds of the artists to come up with a piece of art to influence the minds of the viewers. Surrealist understood that using an image it is possible to create a change that they want. This translates to the changes to the story that wish to tell. “The surrealists understood that photography and cinema could carry out this reanimating process automatically; the process of framing objects in a lens was often enough to create the charge they sought,” (Lethem 215). The artist in this case is the creator of the thought process and uses the message to trigger the political tone he or she wants. Using their choice of the platform, the artist is ab...
