In the course of parenting, some parents prevent their children from using new technology. The reason being, that they intend to protect them from associated adverse effects, which is a good reason. However, by restraining the children, they prevent them from enjoying the advantages that accompany it. This paper intends to explain why parents should allow kids to use technology as well as to explain how to use it in K-12 education.
Most parents do not know when it is the right time to allow children to use technology. They argue that, at that age, the kids’ brains are too young and not ready for information they get from the technology such as graphic violence which has negative impacts on their cognitive development. Hoffman contends that too much screen time affects kids’ behavior and school performance. However, information brought by the technology can useful in educating the children. Also, technology provides the child with a chance to connect and interact with friends, enhancing their social life development (GSN).
