What Is the Meaning of Life
Everybody enjoys the gift of life, but only some comprehend its meaning. Few are born knowing the meaning of life, and many have to search deep and wide; the process can be difficult and frustrating. Philosophy is notable for its attempts to define life and how to make sense of it. However, even with that, philosophy is not helpful as it offers abstract ideas about life, as captured in Kant's philosophy of "highest good" and Aristotle's "human function." Such approaches are not only hard to comprehend but also hard to put into action. Bearing this in mind, I have searched deep within and tried to make sense of life as depicted in the song It's My Life by Bon Jovi. The song supposes that we can make sense of life by being true to ourselves and taking control of whatever happens in our lives.
When we ask ourselves what life is, the question sounds like an ill-fated, peculiar, and unintentionally comedic pastime. That is, life is not about ordinary mortals. Therefore, only some people can take on the task and discover the answer. Such assertion shows that meaningful lives are not for everybody but for extraordinary people.
