Essay Instructions:

For the written portion of this assignment
I ask you to think of a significant event in your personal life, fortunate or unfortunate (e.g., marriage or divorce, employment or unemployment). Write a narrative to illustrate the Sociological Imagination. I need three things: (1) Define "sociological imagination" (5 points); (2) Describe the event (5 points); (3) Explain that event so that it illustrates the "sociological imagination" (40 points). When you explain, you need to examine the event through the following 4 factors:
1.How the historical time (War, recession, globalization, divorce rate, change in the labor market, etc.) we live in influences the event;
2.How the cultural values/customs we are exposed to influence the event;
3.How the social groups we are a member of (gender, age, marital status, class/income level, racial/ethnic identity, etc.) influence the event; and,
4.How public policies (federal student loan policies, unemployment benefits, laws regarding marriage, Medicare, etc.) influence the event.
