Can Electric Cars Help to Reduce Global Warming in the US?
The greatest threat to the future of the globe is climatic changes. Global warming is raising more environmental challenges, and the United States is developing various measures to prevent it from becoming a reality. The effects of global warming are already being felt, such as the recent fires in California. One of the most significant innovations to reduce global warming is electric cars. Electric cars have an impact on global warming since they have a reduced carbon footprint. The government is putting a lot of focus on expanding the production of electric vehicles to reduce adverse climatic conditions. There is hope that the move will reduce emissions and ecological damage. Electric cars can help reduce global warming in the US due to their design and features.
One of the greatest threats to the environment is the level of ozone gasses currently being emitted by gasoline and other petroleum vehicles. It is estimated that the transport industry, especially road transport contributes the highest percentage of greenhouse gases emitted to the atmosphere. It is estimated that cars produce carbon monoxide, particle matter, volatile organic compounds, and nitrogen oxides lethal to the atmosphere, especially when they react with sunlight. The greenhouse gases are due to engine combustion; the amount varies with the cars' surface area and the distance covered per trip (Pavlović et al. 542-8). Electric vehicles are a better solution to greenhouse emissions since they rely on electricity for power generation instead of depending on fossil fuels' combustion to move cars. According to Jones (15), experts estimate that introducing an all-electric car fleet will reduce the carbon print and emission of other ozone gases by 50 to 80%.
It is possible to reduce the levels of ozone gases in the atmosphere because electric vehicles emit lower greenhouse gasses than fossil fuel cars (Helmers, Eckard & Marx 14). This is due to the elimination of systems that are reliant on energy from fuels to operate. The cars use battery packs as the primary source of power, and whenever the power drains, they can be charged at particular charging points. Another factor that reduces carbon emissions is reduced carbon footprints; their carbon footprints are reduced because they do not have significant reactions whenever the car is in motion. Unlike fossil fuel cars, there is no need to use petroleum fuels and oils to use the car. Moreover, there is the cooling process required for the engine. In electric cars, these processes are minimized drastically. Battery packs replace fossil fuel; smaller-sized engines reduce the engine's reaction levels, reducing the levels of ozone gases emitted due to the cooling action of the heat energy from the engine reaction. These processes give electric cars the potential to preserve the environment better than cars using fossil fuels. The elimination of these processes also makes them emit fewer greenhouse gases in their lifespan. According to Pavlovic et al., as electric vehicles' manufacture continues, the batteries' emission will reduce significantly, making electric cars the most suitable and future means of controlling environmental pollution in the US.
