Obesity is the abnormal accumulation and collection of fat in human body that may vitiate one’s health. It is simply being excessively overweight. There are various ways that one may become obese; eating a lot of junk food while undertaking minute or no exercise to burn the fat, food addiction and bad eating routines, genetics causes.
Eating of junk food is the most common cause of obesity. Most of the junk food is highly engineered to increase palatability and thus the food tastes good and irresistible to the consumers thus getting them hooked to them (1, p460). These junk food are also highly marketed and advertised making them very popular among the children and adolescents who are the easier target due to the irresistible tastes. Genetically obesity is also common and this is just natural and one does not need junk food to be obese.
Since the body of human beings are not of the same defining parameters like mass, obesity level is thus defined specifically to a person depending on various factors that the individual has. These factors include your body weight and the height just like there is the surface area to volume ratio that determines the amount of food that an organism consumes. It’s for instance not logical to compare the amount in quantity that a huge animal consumes per day with what say a rat consumes for the same period of time yet scientists say that a rat consumes more food compared to the elephant (2, p10).
More than 650 million people above 18 years in the whole world are obese in 2016. This high number is particularly concentrated on the developed countries and has tripled from the 1975 obesity figures. But why in the developed countries? Studies have revealed the main cause of high obesity rate in the developed countries is the cheap availability of fatty foods that really trigger accumulation of fats and hence obesity.
