As the saying goes, “success comes from within.” This applies to all aspects of leadership. Before a community becomes successful, the focus must first shift to the individual level such as the individual qualities, skills, capacities, capabilities, and talents (Brooks, 2020).
Societies that focus on the individual level before looking at the bigger picture becomes more rapidly successful. This is because the cumulative qualities of each member of the society becomes the greatest asset of the community. Because of this, the top three instrumental values should be those that govern individuality (Plaisance, 2016).
Self-respect
Respect begets respect. Thus, respecting one’s capabilities is the major factor in promoting self-esteem and self-confidence. When a person respects his limitations, he will be able to see a clearer picture of the things that he could focus more such as his strengths or weaknesses. Moreover, respecting one’s limitations can help the person promote his strengths and improve on his weaknesses (Rogers & Ashfort, 2017).
Courageous
Courage is vital in facing current and future challenges. Together with discipline, an individual must have a resolution to achieve his objectives within a specific period. Typically, people who lack courage become disheartened by failures, thereby freezing themselves in the status quo and forgetting the goal to achieve more than what they have done each day. With enough bravery at heart, these people can move forward without hesitation (Detert & Bruno, 2017).
Imaginative
A creative mind can formulate different solutions and dimensions which people without enough ingenuity cannot tolerate. Imagination paves a way to more opportunities and possibilities. This attribute contributes to the goal of courageousness, where an individual must create more possibilities to lift himself from the status quo (Amabile, 2018).
