First Name: Second Name: University Name: Lecturer Name: Movie Review Rosewood Rosewood is a movie which was directed by Singleton`s John in reference to racial discrimination and violence in Florida in 1923. The movie takes accounts of the tragedy that took place at a prosperous black town which was invaded by the white. In 1923 the black residence of Rosewood which was all black villages in central Florida were prosperous in their farming activities. This was after several generations from slavery the community had settled there and they were having good businesses and farms which were envied by the white. It`s at this they have been developing freedom and they were relating well with the white and adjacent to Rosewood were white settlers villages who were poor and looked upon Rosewood with envy and suspension due to how they were progressing and the white people were getting much of the assistant from the black wealthy farmers. Due to such imbalance in the racial social hierarchy there were grudges with each other. Therefore any instability between their coexistence would result to a war between them and this is what happened. Fanny Taylor was unfaithful wife to his husband and needed to conceal it after she was battered by her white lover. As a result of the beatings she run out of her house claiming that she has been assaulted by a black man and because she had bruises there is no way she would have convinced the husband on how they come about hence she thought of cheating that way to hind her adultery. All the white people believed on the version of the story, this caused the white people to form a posses against the Blacks living in Rosewood and went there to search their convict. The whites were lead by country Sherriff in pursuit of the convict which resulted to death of 70 and 250 blacks within one week. There after the whole village was burnt down completely and resulted to what is being referred to as the Rosewood massacre which was revealed later in 1982 by some of the survivors and they got reparations in 1993. The film uncovers this shame of injustices which was caused due to racial discriminations and social issues which were experienced in those early days. The director of the movie brought about the view of the community how they have been living together as families and friends before the incident which divided them. It also brought about on the physical and emotional devastation being experienced throughout the movie due to the lies done with an attempt to hind her promiscuity and evidence of how racial hatred could be destructive. The story also highlights on the indomitable nature of human spirit and how it is able to bind two different people and they are not influenced by their racial differences. The film has the theme which surrounds human nature of the capacity of great evil and great good, infinity hatred and love it also evokes some emotions and feeling due to how the white were inhuman to the residence of Rosewood. Although the white people from other cities were killing the blacks at Rosewood there are some who were living in Rosewood who were protecting the blacks not to be killed and they were helping them to escape.
