Incorporating Theory
For this research, the identified problem is Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and the proposed solution is that if surgery is performed during the early stage of the disease, it will be effective in preventing or reducing the occurrence of complications associated with OSA. A theory which could be used to support the proposed solution is identified in this paper, and a rationale for the selection is given. This paper also provides a discussion as to how the theory works to support the proposed solution, as well as how the theory would be incorporated into the project.
The applicable theory is Care, Cure and Core Theory developed by Lydia Hall. This theory is made of 3 independent though interrelated circles. The core refers to the patient or the individual to whom nursing care is required and directed. The core has objectives that he/she has set by herself or himself – not set by anyone else – and these objectives have to be met (George, 2012). Conversely, the cure refers to the attention that medical professionals give to the patient. As per this theory, the cure circle is shared by health professionals and nurses. They comprise the actions or interventions that are aimed at curing or treating the individual from whatever medical condition that he/she might be having. The care cycle basically describes the task of nurses. The nurses are focused on carrying out that essential role of nurturing the patients and providing the necessary care that might include providing comfort measures, providing patient teaching activities, as well as assisting the patients to meet their needs where help is required (George, 2012).
