Service-Learning Reflective Journal Student’s Name Institution Service Learning Agency The agency I volunteered with is the Holy Trinity Lutheran School Des Moines Private School. The mission statement of the institution is that the school exists in helping caregivers and parent of the church and the community. This is achieved through the provision of a profoundly Christ-centered and quality education for the sole purpose of preparing students for life and eternity. The institution empowers children and teaches them always to be Christ-centered. It has successfully reached out to other local private schools and the people in the community and has nurtured other exiting school families with the power of the gospel. The services provided by the school such as volunteer work and also providing a comprehensive curriculum for students are aligned with the mission statement of the school. It has successfully assisted parents of the community by the provision of quality education for students that prepare them for life and how to deal with daily challenges as they arise. The target pupation of the school is mainly parents and students from various settings. This has allowed the school to operate in a small rural region and the educators are uniquely equipped in teaching multi-grade classrooms. The school has received funds from the state government in numerous instances, such as during redevelopment of the school and also enhancement of its curriculum program. The school has also received donations from parents and the church which assist in improving the learning experiences of the children. One of the challenges the school faces is the lack of effective continued training for educators. This is common in most private schools which makes it challenging for teachers to find a suitable place for integrative technology within their classrooms. The educators lack support personnel or training necessary to take advantage of the current technologies (James, & Lunnon, 2019). The parents and caregivers of the school need constant reassurance which is highly demanding for the school administrators. The parents however are significantly committed to having a say in their child’s education. The institution has no significant gaps as they have successfully partnered with volunteer care centers which aim to nurture children in the knowledge of Christ. These partnerships have assisted in the provision of positive role models and the best environment necessary to help children in developing socially physically and spiritually.
