The Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution in china occurred in the mid-19th century. The significant revolution was triggered by Mao Zedong's urge to restore his communist political leadership in china (Meisner, 4). This period came with hardships to the Chinese people as they tried to leave their tradition and adapt to the new cultures and social lives desired by the leader. The leader reinforced a significant focus on the Cultural Revolution to revenge on the prior changes on communist. Mao Zedong used the revolution to suppress his political opponents and attain power. The great leader Mao used masses of Chinese people to implement the revolution with a personal reason for restoring the political party lost during the period of drought and famine in the nation.
The revolution started with an attack on all the dictators who opposed the reforms desired by Mao. Masses of university and college students organized by Mao roamed along all the streets and cities in China with a significant reason for implementing changes. The groups, also known as the Red Guards, pushed for a brush off of the old traditions and culture. Mao gave instructions on punishment on any individual using past cultures, habits, customs, and ideas entirely in society. The assault involved individuals, groups of people, and institutions based in the country. This process hurt a lot of people in China as the red guards adhered to all directives from Mao despite the situation in question. The current issues led to the closure of many public institutions like schools. Most of the destroyed places implemented the use of the traditional methods that Mao wanted to get rid of during the revolution. Many citizens went through physical harm, with others losing their lives due to the pain induced by the assault used by the Red Guards. The Red Guards carried out the process comfortably without the fear of attack from police forces as Mao had issued directives to protect the masses from any intervention.
The significant aspect of the Chinese revolutionary period is reflected in the borrowing of western ideologies to serve all the implemented changes. Western imperialism aided in the formation of modern China in the post-Mao era (Meisner, 12). Colonialism impacted reforms in all aspects of life, including; social, economic, cultural, and intellectual sense in China. The ruling by power provided the revolutionary movement with new ideas to work against traditions and past institutions. The product and ideas provided made the campaign stronger, leading to rapid brush off of the previous cultural ways. The revolutionaries used western tools and methods to get rid of the Chinese tradition yokes. The visions anticipated by the revolutionaries brought about an era of total confusion between the existing social order and the current period of western domination in the country. The adaption to the new version from the historical past of the Chinese people proved confusing to the people. The complete revolution took more than a century for individuals to cope with the implemented reforms.
