Cell-Mediated Response
Cell-mediated response is a mechanism by which the body responds to changes in its environment through cells. There are two types of immune responses: the humoral response and the cell-mediated response (Dhabhar). The difference between the two is that while humoral response is an antibody-mediated response, the cell-mediated response does not involve antibodies.
In cell-mediated immune response, the T cells respond to the exogenous antigens including viruses, toxins, or bacteria that circulate in the blood. The first step in this response involves self-cells or APCs exhibiting foreign antigens binding to the T cells. The APCs, or helper T cells secret interleukins that co-stimulate the activation of the T cells (Panawal, 3).
