Marketing refers to the activities of the business that revolves around the selling and buying of goods and services which involves product promotion activities such as advertising and delivering of goods and services. In my definition, marketing is the business branch that focuses on selling products and services through market research and product promotion.

Goods and services marketing focuses on promoting, informing, introducing, educating and persuading buyers to purchase a company’s commodity whereas sports marketing involves both the promotion events and teams tying in promotions of other products and services into sports events. Major targeted sports clients include associations, other teams, service or product brands and providers.

As for 4Cs stands for customer, cost, convenience and communication and 4Ps stands for product, price, place and communication, the two models appear to have a close relationship in the marketing mix. That is, customer value is the product offered to them, cost of the product correlates with the market price of the commodity. Convenience is about then accessibility of the products to customers which is represented by place in 4Ps. Lastly, communication is about product promotion to boost the sale of goods and services. The 4cs are valuable in setting a company’s marketing mix.

Positioning in the context of marketing refers to business approach to influence customers’ perception towards their goods and services with respect to their perception or affiliation the competitors’ products.
Position is important because it enables a business to win huge customer base as it creates a distinct, unique, and strategic position in the consumer's mind.Perceptual map is a diagrammatic marketing model normally employed marketers to visually display the perceptions of customers or potential customer in a bid to position a company’s product.

Public relations refers to a strategic maintenance and protecting of business image by presenting or reporting a company’s good performance to boost its reputation and goodwill in the stakeholders. PR statements is an element of marketing as it aims to retain customers as well retaining good relationship with other stakeholders in the organizations. PRs should be treated as separate P in sports marketing because it does not focus on product promotion. PRs are different from marketing because it only seeks to create a harmonious relationship with other stakeholders.
