1 Describe at least two important historical factors related to the origins of sociology.
The most important factor of the factors that are related to the origins of sociology is industrial revolution (American Sociological Association, 1992). During the 19th century, people started moving to towns in such for jobs. They had to leave the traditions and earn a living outside their cultural beliefs. They went through difficult hardships that made them develop new ideas and perspectives to their lives. The second factor is imperialism (American Sociological Association, 1992). The Europeans conquered different parts of the world. This exposed them to different cultures around the world, something that startled them. They became curious to know why the cultures differed. The y started to find out the reasons why these cultural contrasts existed.
2 Do you think sociologists should try to reform society or only study society objectively? Give reasons why.
In my perspective, sociologists should study the society objectively rather than trying to reform it. Their work is not to reform the society but study it and explain it to everybody to understand why certain things are happening in the society (Ritzer, 2016). Objective study of the society will led to better actual research that will enable actual research. Sociologists who wish to reform society are likely to approach their work in a biased manner. They are likely to produce researches that only argues for the reforms they want to be implemented. This will degrade the quality of their work.
