Interpersonal Movie: Encanto
Encanto was a Disney film set in Colombia about a family of extraordinary people with different “blessings” or powers (Howard & Bush, 2021). The main premise of the film is that the main character, Maribel, is a member of the Madrigal family, and is incidentally the only one without powers among her family (aside from her grandmother, Alma, the matriarch of the film). The family, mainly Maribel, is constantly exposed to different emotional scenarios that caused an underlying strain in the relationship of Maribel and the rest of her family, especially her grandmother. This shows a group and public speaking type of communication between the most “functional” members of the Madrigal family. However, the one-on-one communication are also meaningful. For example, Maribel’s one-on-one talk with her sister, Luisa, a girl with super strength, shows that Luisa is heavily burdened (both literally and figuratively) by the expectations of her grandmother and the village. Even though Luisa and Maribel don’t talk a...
