There is a growing concern regarding the number of individuals suffering from obesity. This health issue is one of the leading causes of death in the United States and worldwide; therefore, individuals are being exposed to interventions such as the creation of awareness. To combat this issue, people need to understand how their medical use, diet patters, and physical activity or inactivity plays a role in increasing the chances of being obese. This paper is a reflection of the things learned in this course regarding the issue of weight.
People that are obese have an increased risk of suffering from other life-threatening illnesses than normal people. Illnesses such as type 2 diabetes, Coronary heart disease, Stroke, and High blood pressure (Hypertension) are fatal and they massively reduce the quality of life. Apart from this, obese people face social difficulties such as stigma and ridicule. It, therefore, begs the question of why individuals still put themselves at risk and indulge in unhealthy lifestyles. Maybe they are just addicted to it and we need to eradicate the source of addiction to help manage obesity. Issues such as low cost and convenience of fast foods play a huge role in feeding this addiction.
Making lifestyle changes can be challenging especially for poverty-stricken societies. They are left with no choice than to indulge in unhealthy foods regularly. The society people live in makes it harder for people to change their lifestyles case point being working out is nowadays seen more of a beauty enhancement activity than healthy living.
