Chapter 7: Marxist Geographies
In this chapter, Marxist geographies are analyzed. It is common in most places of the world, that both the rich and the poor inhabit the very places. In this kind of setting these people have different lifestyles. They will consume goods in different ways. The will always practice the use and throw away while in the camp of the poor, the most common practice will be use, reuse and even recycle. The places visited by the two different subset of people within the economy of a given country, the type of food and the type of merchandise they possess will be of a significant contrast. On the other hand, the environment in they stay too are of significant and distinguished characteristics. The rich will always be surrounded with the cleanest environments possible; the air they breathe too will be cleaner. The poor are surrounded with all the other filth one can imagine of.
Capitalism is argued to be central to the disparities experienced among population of the countries of the world. Marxist geographies try to assess the spatial scale of the disparities and offer a logical reason on the very topic. It tries to offer a solution to the said complexity of the world. In his argument on reality, he states that the complexities experienced in the world can be assessed from a shallow through a deeper end to offer the required and or the desired outcome. Marxist geographies tend to offer a criterion for changing the conditions experienced in the world. For instance, it is argued that space was not a backdrop of things but rather a result of relation of interaction between various aspects of production. People are also confronted with nature and they have to manipulate nature for their survival. Though several geographers critiqued Marxist geography, it had a great impact in the modern geography.
