So often, there comes the interpretations by different scholars about some concepts which they believe, and try to advance, as facts. While they might do a great job in the advancement of such ideas using backup from the ideas of other scholars and researchers, they seem to always go a bit too far and onto the excesses of it. This therefore pushes them to add some information that might ring as either novice, or out rightly outrageous. For some others, things might take a really different turn, especially when the technicalities of discussing and backing up their ideas takes a digression and pushes their own towards uncharted territories.
In Critical Theory: A Very Short Introduction by Eric Bronner, the author works to address the social ills that existed in the early parts of the 20th century, particularly fascism and capitalism. As its name suggests, the book offers a rather critical analysis of the concepts and ideas contributed by previous scholars, and draws out a very different but distinct departure from the mainstream traditional philosophy that has been the mainstay of most scholastic ideas. One of the main arguments he puts across, is that progress can only be fostered in the society, by individuals who work contrary to the general societal trends. There are however a few aspects of the works, that make it rather below expectations. The author doesn’t delve into details about much of what he has already started. It is a short introduction, yes, but there are some rather common concepts that he needs to have shed some light on. These include theories on post-colonial gender and sexuality, post-structuralist semiology as well as the even more important post-Lacanian psychoanalysis.
