A proper teacher-student relationship is crucial for a successful learning process. However, I concur with Paulo Freire that narration has adversely affected education. The teachers are the narrators who speak things about reality as if they are static, predictable, motionless, and compartmentalized (Freire). In other words, the primary objective of teachers is to narrate things that they want students to memorize without explaining how they are perceived the way they are in the real world. Students are expected to master lessons narrated by their teachers. They have been turned into receptacles or containers that are supposed to be filled by their teachers. In that light, the narration has destroyed the learning process.
The banking education concept has turned students into depositories and teachers into depositors. In some cases, I wonder why learners’ perceptions are not prioritized, which might contribute to learning more than listening and following teachers’ instructions. In contemporary schools, students are expected to adhere to the guidelines established by their teachers without questioning anything. Teachers are assumed to know everything, and learners know nothing (Freire). That is why when students appear to understand concepts that have not been taught in the class, it is perceived as if they are challenging the knowledge or skills of their teachers. Learners are only expected to speak when permitted by their teachers since they should always listen.
