What type and amount of human resources would be required to carry out this education? America is experiencing a serious epidemic in childhood obesity. Currently, 16.3% of children and adolescents aged 2 to 19 years are obese with 31.9% either obese or overweight. This translates to 12 million children and adolescents being obese and over 23 million being either obese or overweight. A more troubling fact is that, during the last four decades, childhood obesity rates have more than quadrupled from 4.2 to 17% among 6 to 11 years old children and for adolescents' age 12 to 19 years from 4.6% to 17.6% CITATION Nat10 \l 1033 (American Public Health Association, 2010).
Education at the Lawton health education will require a multidisciplinary group of personnel that comprise of a physician, nutritionist, administrative support staff from the school, school nurse, exercise specialist, behavior health professional, and volunteers. The nutritionist shall provide education on proper dietary requirements and feeding habits. The school nurse will serve two vital functions as a case manager and counselor for the children.
