Ebola Research Paper

Research Paper Instructions:

As we receive news & updates ( & now daily politics) on institutions caring for Ebola patients, and the latest standards from the CDC related to Ebola including the recognition, treatment, and protection of healthcare workers and the community, consider some of the information in the context of this course. Certainly, HR would be heavily involved in dealing with the staff issues arising, particularly at Texas Health Resources (THR), Dallas (the hospital at which Mr. Duncan was treated & subsequently died). Many of the concepts and principles covered in this course are relevant in this situation.
What leadership models are evident at the CDC, THR, & now at the state, military & federal levels? What leadership strategies would you employ ?
What human resource management issues are arising from the situation in Dallas? In other health care facilities? (while the focus has been on hospitals & ERs, an at risk patient could present in almost any type of health care setting: clinic, physician office, school).
For example, as a HR leader, how would you deal with/react to the nurse who appeared on The Today show on 10/16? What about the nurse who challenged the New Jersey mandate for quarantine?
Do you think the handling of this situation nation wide has strengthen the position of unions?
How has it influenced the perception of nursing?
Has the media exploited or helped the situation?
As you think about these issues, think about how your organization's HR department/ culture would shape the response to the situation THR faced.(they were the sentinel event!) How has your organization responded overall? What did your organization learn from the Texas response? You need not identify your specific organization

The outbreak of Ebola in the recent past has exposed the weaknesses in health institution especially the leadership style at the CDC, THR or the organization in charge of handling Ebola. The leadership style used, the Laissez-Faire style, is only aware of what is on the ground without direct involvement. For example, the recent case of an Ebola patient who died in Dallas. The patient nearly infected all the medical workers at the institution when he reported to the health centre alone (Bill, 2014). Besides, the medical officers involved should have been quarantined. However, this did not happen. The most appropriate leadership style which ought to have been used, and which I would employ, is the Authoritarian style. Authoritarian style completely controls all the decision. Minimizing Ebola spread and ensuring public safety is the most important thing and can be achieved through authoritarian leadership style.
Amber Vinson is one of the nurses who cared for Thomas Eric, the Ebola patient. Amber afterwards boarded a commercial plane with a low grade temperature. He came into contact with many people and in which case he endangered many people. The main human resource issue is importance of quarantine to reduce the risk of Ebola spread. Had amber been infected with the virus the situation would have been a different, however it was fortunate he was never infected.
Quarantine policy is very im...
