How Effective is Daily Foot Care Compared to No Daily Foot Care
In this assignment, you will write a critical appraisal that demonstrates comprehension of two qualitative research studies.
For this assignment, use the nursing practice problem and two qualitative peer-reviewed research articles you identified in Topic 1 (or two new articles based on instructor feedback in Topic 1). In a 1,000-1,250-word essay, summarize two qualitative studies.
Use the "Research Critique Guidelines – Part I" document to organize your essay.
You are required to cite a minimum of three peer-reviewed sources to complete this assignment. Sources must be published within the last 5 years, appropriate for the assignment criteria, and relevant to nursing practice.
Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.
This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.
Background of Study
1 Summary of studies. Include problem, significance to nursing, purpose, objective, and research question.
The first article authored by CITATION Cha18 \l 1033 (Chao & Spry., 2018) purposed to examine the effectiveness of providing preventative foot care for patients with diabetes. The article sought to answer the following questions; What is the clinical effectiveness of providing preventative foot care for diabetes and asymptomatic feet patients? What is the cost-effectiveness of providing preventative foot care for diabetes and asymptomatic feet patients? What evidence-based guidelines for providing preventive foot care for patients with diabetes and asymptomatic feet? The findings of this research would help nurses understand the clinical effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of guidelines for DFU. This would inform their approach to their patients, especially by finding the cheapest and most clinically effective approach to prevent and manage DFU.
The second article authored by CITATION Cof18 \l 1033 (Coffey, Mahon, & Gallagher, 2018) purposed to synthesize the findings of qualitative papers exploring diabetic people's perceptions and experiences of diabetic foot ulceration (DFU) to identify how they could be better supported to prevent ulceration or manage its impact. The researchers sought to find out why the perceptions and experiences of individuals with diabetes regarding DFU. The findings of this research would help nurses understand the perceptions and experiences of diabetic foot ulceration and foot care in people with diabetes. This would inform the nurses' advice to the patients on how to do proper care of their feet to avoid complications.
How do these two articles support the nurse practice issue you chose?
1 Discuss how these two articles will be used to answer your PICOT question.
The studies show that daily foot care is important for diabetes and high-risk groups to avoid foot ulceration and, in extreme cases, amputationCITATION Sal \l 1033 (Salutini, et al., 2020). The studies showed that daily foot care is effective preventive foot care for patients with diabetes. However, CITATION Cof18 \l 1033 (Coffey, Mahon, & Gallagher, 2018) concluded that many people opposed daily foot care for varied reasons. Therefore, it is not an effective solution to prevent foot complications. For example, CITATION Cof18 \l 1033 (Coffey, Mahon, & Gallagher, 2018) noted that patients and high-risk groups reported disruptions in their lifestyles due to daily restrictions imposed by daily activities that come with foot care. Some reported that they could not bathe, shower, drive a car or go shopping. CITATION Cof18 \l 1033 (Coffey, Mahon, & Gallagher, 2018)noted that many patients did not practice daily behaviours such as daily checking of their feet to find any irregularities. Many individuals with diabetes did not practice some of the basic daily behaviours of foot care, and fewer adhered to footwear recommendations. CITATION Cha18 \l 1033 (Chao & Spry., 2018) noted that daily foot care was a weak recommendation for patients because most patients ignored the practices and their practicality in relation to t...
