Impacts of New Technologies in Improving Efficiency in Healthcare

Research Paper Instructions:

Nursing Informatics
Assignment: Literature Review: The Use of Clinical Systems to Improve Outcomes and Efficiencies
New technology—and the application of existing technology—only appears in healthcare settings after careful and significant research. The stakes are high, and new clinical systems need to offer evidence of positive impact on outcomes or efficiencies.
Nurse informaticists and healthcare leaders formulate clinical system strategies. As these strategies are often based on technology trends, informaticists and others have then benefited from consulting existing research to inform their thinking.
In this Assignment, you will review existing research focused on the application of clinical systems. After reviewing, you will summarize your findings.
To Prepare:
• Review the Resources and reflect on the impact of clinical systems on outcomes and efficiencies within the context of nursing practice and healthcare delivery.
• Conduct a search for recent (within the last 5 years) research focused on the application of clinical systems. The research should provide evidence to support the use of one type of clinical system to improve outcomes and/or efficiencies, such as “the use of personal health records or portals to support patients newly diagnosed with diabetes.”
• Identify and select 5 peer-reviewed articles from your research.
The Assignment: (4-5 pages)
In a 4- to 5-page paper, synthesize the peer-reviewed research you reviewed. Be sure to address the following:
• Identify the 5 peer-reviewed articles you reviewed, citing each in APA format.
• Summarize each study, explaining the improvement to outcomes, efficiencies, and lessons learned from the application of the clinical system each peer-reviewed article described. Be specific and provide examples.

In the society today, new technologies are on the rise and improving every day. With rapid growth of information technology, developing devices, the provision of clinics and healthcare are increasingly taking place maintained using these new technologies. Through various clinical systems such as patient-centered portal, patients can access their health records and arrangement their next appointment. Also, these technologies give patients and healthcare providers access to information for effective decision-making. Various nurse informatics are at the forefront of advancing this work, especially using electronic health records, decision support and telehealth. This paper will focus on impacts of various new technologies in improving outcomes and efficiency in the healthcare.
Hostile events among the inpatients in health facilities increase patient illness and mortality; hence, it is costly to individuals and their families, hospitals, and society at large. Advanced EHR adoption is self-sufficiently associated with inpatients that stay longer admitted to hospitals. Modern EHR adoption is not only associated with patient contentment, but is also concerned with establishing good relationships within the health facility environs, that is, improved nursing practices, availability of adequate resources for health services, and good relations between the nurses and their bosses. This will create a good profile for the health facility as patients report quality services they receive from the hospital.
This research on nursing informatics revealed that early phases of EHR adoption reported improved inpatient outcomes of lengthy stay and readmissions of patients to the hospitals. This is evident from earlier stated practices, such as better working environments for the nurses, enhanced quality nursing care, and patient fulfilment. These practices, however, are important in supporting the basics of quality nursing care as technology is incorporated. However, the use of IT in the health sector is one of the most encouraging advanced initiatives that creates progress in nursing services and effective communication, reduce adverse patient events, and, most importantly, improve patient satisfaction hence improving universal health care.
Additionally, wrong prescriptions generally affect the safety of all patients and predominantly paediatric patients because of the improper calculations of individual patient dosages and the wrong use of medicines for various patients. Electronic prescribing systems (EPS) are used to try and minimize these errors (Alenezi, Sammons & Conroy, 2018). Electronic Prescribing Systems works by allowing qualified medical practitioners to write and send prescriptions to their patients or to their leading supply pharmacy electronically.
Electronic Prescribing Systems has generally improved universal health care, as explained. First and foremost, it reduces deaths from taking the wrong medications. Moreover, this automated system has reduced the cost of traveling to the hospital to get a doctor's prescription. This practice has been enabled through online orders and prescription of drugs. Besides, Electronic Prescri...
