Nursing Professional Development (NPD) is the long lasting process of active indulgence by nurses in scholarship activities that aid in the development and maintenance of their upheld competence and support achievement of their career goals by enhancing their professional practice. They have vast knowledge in continuing education, program development and management not forgetting adult learning principles and nursing career development. This makes them versatile and flexible to work in different environments. They have different roles they specialize in but in my opinion, bring out one key role, Leadership.
Leadership by a professional development specialist can be shown in several ways (Swihart & Johnstone, 2010). The first characteristic is Mentorship.
